visions concerning failure/visions concerning acheivement, the latest from 3x.13, is almost (emphasis on 'almost') dreamy enough to be a sleeper. Geosynchronous (the opening track) floats in and out nicely...then swells back in with an almost-pure rock-n-roll sound that Frank doesn't bother to hide at all, even amongst semi-hiphop rapping and almost-clubby beats-n-synths. part 1 of this double-EP closes out on a much more trip-hop/industrial note, almost completely abandoning any rock influence at all. part 2 (vca) begins on a MUCH more clubby note, with dub basses, vintage glide-synths, and '4 on the floor' beats aplenty. Frank even made sure to bring all his friends from etched.us along for the ride, featuring one of them on each track. it all closes out with 30 watt toaster oven (an almost cartoonish "what the hell did i just listen to" kinda guy) exhibiting his more mellow side, remixing RAT's take on "retribution", which happens to be the only song on VCA.
